(#7)
Stacey Williams, a speedy outfielder from St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg, Mississippi hit three home runs and drove in 9 runs in Hinds CC’s 20-13 win over Northwest Mississippi in the opening round of the 1998 Region 23, Division 2 Tournament at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson.
He hit one home run to left field, one home run over the flag pole in center field, and a third home run off the right field “fair” pole.
After the game, Rangers head coach Don Castle said, “That was pretty danged impressive. How many home runs has that guy hit this year?” I said, with a straight face, “Three.” Actually it was five, but I loved seeing the look on his face when I said that. 🙂
I’ve never seen anything like it. But, we always had guys that could take it to another level when the post-season began.
Lesson learned: That’s why we keep playing the game, for moments like this where unbelievable things can happen every time a pitch is thrown and a bat is swung.
