What is #GivingTuesday?
Hinds Community College Athletics and the Hinds Community College Foundation are partnering together for the first annual #GivingTuesday initiative on November 30th, 2021! #GivingTuesday is a day created to encourage charitable generosity to counteract the massive consumer rush on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In 2020, an astonishing $2.47 billion was donated to U.S. non-profits by a reported 34.8 million people on #GivingTuesday according to the Giving Tuesday, Inc. (ref), a 29% increase in donations compared to 2019 (CharityNavigator.org). #GivingTuesday is a movement meant to energize support, promote generosity and inspire people to give.
Why Give to Hinds on #GivingTuesday?
With over 250 student-athletes and 14 sports programs, Hinds Athletics aims to build on the excitement of a change in leadership and an outstanding fall sports season, with its first every #GivingTuesday initiative. The approach behind launching an annual #GivingTuesday initiative is to develop new and exciting ways for our community and fan base to take ownership, at any level, in enhancing the overall experience for everyone at Hinds Community College. There has literally been thousands of lives positively affected by our faculty and coaches at Hinds through the years, and we owe it to current and future students to continue to build upon that standard for the future. We have the opportunity before us, with your help, to have the best student-athlete experience in the state and an unequaled game day experience for our fans and supporters. We have already made some exciting upgrades to Joe Renfroe Stadium and Boyd Gymnasium to enhance the game day experience with the investment of a new $50,000 sound system, but we need your support to continue to make these types of enhancements to every facility. #GivingTuesday will benefit all of Hinds Community College with its funds raised by helping reduce the budget burden of the college to fund athletics facility improvements.
How Do I Give?
Those interested in supporting Hinds Athletics inaugural #GivingTuesday initiative can navigate directly to the donation page here to donate now through December 31st. Online donations are always available via credit card and include one-time, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual payments. Payment by check should be made payable to the Hinds Community College Foundation. Visit the #GivingTuesday donation page to learn more! All donations will go through the Foundation, an IRS 501(c)(3), so you contribution is tax-deductible.
Below is an outline of each of our 2021 #Giving Tuesday immediate project needs:
Mayo Fieldhouse Lobby Renovation
- Update to display all our former alumni
- Install TV’s, tables, and chairs for a social gathering space.
Renfroe Stadium Tailgate Pavilion
- Remove trees and level area for grass, picnic tables, and tents.
- Provide space for pregame tailgating and events.
Softball Hitting Facility Project
- Install cover building over hitting cages.
- Install heating and lights for all season use.
*If a project’s funding goal is met, excess funds can be used to complete other projects.
