(#62)

The Marlins record-setting 17-0 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on September 17, 1995 was a memorable night on the mound for right-hander Pat Rapp.
Rapp went the distance for Florida, allowing just one hit, one walk and struck out seven while pitching a shutout at the highest scoring stadium in baseball. The lone hit was a bloop single by Dante Bichette in the fourth inning.
Rapp became the first member of the Marlins to toss a one-hitter in the victory.
Rapp won 21 games in his two seasons for the Hinds Junior College Eagles, 1986-1987. The Eagles won back-to-back south division championships and made the school’s first state playoff appearance, won Hinds’ first state championship in 37 years, were runner-up in the ’87 Region 23 tournament, and played in the Eagles first Eastern District Tournament.
Be on the lookout for an upcoming story called “Eagles in the Big Leagues”, featuring in-depth stories on Rapp, Steven Bourgeois, and Chad Bradford.
