In the 1995 State Tournament at Perkinston, Hinds lost a opening round game, 3-2 to Mississippi Delta. Chad Bradford pitched a complete game 6-hitter and all three runs for Delta scored in the 3rd inning. Eight zeros and one three.
In an elimination game the next day against Northwest Mississippi, with the game tied 7-7 in the seventh inning, centerfielder Andre Thompson hit a grand slam home run and we won 11-7 win to keep us alive in the tournament.
In the game, Thompson went 5-5 with 6 RBI.
Andre was a three time ML draft selection, in 1993 by the Minnesota Twins in the 32nd round after his senior year at Wingfield, by the Boston Red Sox in the 41st round after his freshman year at Hinds, and again by the Red Sox in the 39th round after his junior year at Delta State.
He signed with the Red Sox and played 35 games that summer for Lowell, a Class A affiliate of Boston.
Andre was also chosen to the NJCAA Division II All-America team in 1995.
