Second Chances

(#79)

Southpaw Zack Ball (Florence High School) after pitching poorly earlier in the day against Co-Lin in the winner’s bracket game of the ’98 Region 23 tourney at Wesson, made the best of second chances by striking out 13 Northwest Rangers in a complete game 6-3 Hinds win that put the Eagles in the championship game. The 13 K’s set a single game record….one of the best single game pitching performances ever for HCC.

In 12 starts on the season, Ball was 3-4, with an ERA of 3.75 in 50 innings.

This performance was even more impressive because Northwest had put 13 runs on the board in our tournament opener with them the day before.

The good news was we scored 20 in that game and the team with the most runs always wins.

In the opener, centerfielder Stacy Williams hit three home runs, one to left, one to center, and one off the right field “fair” pole and had 9 RBI.
