(#126)

The Region 23 tournament is set. It’s the most wonderful time of the year for Mississippi JUCO baseball. Everyone is dreaming about a Region 23 title and a national crown.
Six teams have qualified for the double-elimination tournament set for March 16th-20th at Dub Herring Field on the campus of Pearl River Community College in Poplarville.
Pearl River, the Mississippi State Champion and LSU-Eunice had already qualified. This weekend there were four best-of-three playoff series with the winner’s joining in on the fun.
Number 3 seed East Mississippi took two of three from number 7 East Central.
Number 4 seed Hinds swept number 6 Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Number 5 seed Jones swept number 4 Northeast Mississippi.
And number 8 Northwest Mississippi took two of three from number 2 Meridian.
In the opening round on Monday the 16th, Hinds will play LSUE at noon, and Pearl River will play Northwest at 3:30 and East Mississippi will play Jones at 7:00.
LSUE is the defending Region 23 and national champion.
Now a time for a little R & R and then fine-tune the machines for the tournament.
It’s tournament time and history has shown us over and over again that if you’re in it, you can win it.
6 teams are in it. Now go do it on the field.
The winner advances to the NJCAA Division 2 World Series in Enid, Oklahoma.
Note: Hinds fell one out and one game short of Hinds’ 7th trip to the NJCAA World Series.
