When we merged with Utica for the 1989 season, I will never forget the look on Curly Farris‘ (long-time Gulf Coast head coach) face when he saw the “Utica” umpires walk through the gate to call our doubleheader in Raymond; Leon, Floyd, Terry, Donnell, etc.
We got all the calls and won two, just like George (McQuitter) always did at Utica… and just like Curly always did at Perk. ![]()
Longtime Mississippi Delta CC head coach Terry Thompson who surpassed Coach Farris to become the all-time Mississippi JUCO win’s leader with 757 (7 state and 5 regional championships), commented on FB (with tongue-in-cheek and a sly smile on his face): “Wow! We never did that at Moorhead.” (said with the sincerity of Eddie Haskell to Mrs. Cleaver on Leave it to Beaver).
I replied: “I got ejected from both games of doubleheaders at Moorhead for years. But I never got ejected from any games we had a chance to win.”

That’s a priceless exchange from times of long ago.
And I can testify under oath that. except for 1989, Hinds definitely didn’t have any of that home cooking stuff with the umpires.
