(#175)

One of the great things about today’s 50th Anniversary celebration of the “Boys of ’73” at Hinds was when 5 year old Baylor Branning accepted the plaque for his grandfather Doug Branning who passed away in October of last year. I thought it was an awesome tribute. Thanks to his grandmother Becky for bringing him today.
We also had a lot family members attend, along with Matt Jones (Executive Director of the Hinds Foundation) and Hinds Athletic Director Nathan Werremeyer. Lamar Currie cooked the great lunch.
We had 7 teammates who could make it today. From left to right: Eddie Ramsey (FH), Bobby Barrett (Wingfield), Doug Cockrell (FH), Rick Clarke (FH), Roy Higdon (St. Joe), Baylor Branning for Doug (McCluer Academy). Ray Burroughs (Warren Central), and Butch Newman (Warren Central).
Ramsey, Cockrell, Clarke, and Higdon even survived Moose Perry at Forest Hill and D.M. Howie at St. Joseph. Tough guys who played for ultra tough coaches.
We were missing great teammates Don Flowers and Stirling Madden, and our coach, Danny Neely who had conflicts today.
The Boys of ’73. “The Originals” who started the great Hinds baseball tradition. Always Eagles!!
